December 21st

Today wasn't one of our best days I have to admit.  We took our German Shepherd mix (Shelby) to the vet to have her sedated and X-rays taken.  She won't jump on the bed anymore (I know, why am I complaining about this) and she's yelped a few times for no apparent reason.  This afternoon we got the call that she's got degenerative arthritis in her left hip.  Our vet said he thought she was about a 3 out of 10 in severity and with glucosamine tablets and the loss of about 5 lbs. she should be much better.  Keren and I were pretty worried before picking her up thinking about what the outcome might be.  She has been such a sweet, intelligent and loving dog to our family, the thought of her passing on makes me sad just typing this.  She's 9 years old so she's no spring chicken but still loves to chase the tennis ball like a puppy.  She was very groggy when we picked her up and got the royal treatment by getting to ride in the front seat on the way home while Keren and Ava rode in back.   We stopped in Walgreens and Keren bought her a nice chewy bone, she definitely deserved one after a day like today.

Here's a little video I just put together of Ava and mommy, enjoy:

Shelby knows this is no trip to the doggie park.

All ears when I promised her a treat after her vet visit.

  1. OHHHH update on Shelby? Doing ok? Kneesa had a bad scare on 11/11... (heart murmur and 3 spots on her lungs) ...I lost it. I'm a nervous wreck waiting for those "spots" to turn malignant...I will go insane. Give hugs to Shelby and hope all is well.

  2. Thanks Kristen, Shelby seems to be doing fine but we are making adjustments to make it easier on her hip. I read about Kneesa a couple weeks ago. Very sorry, I know it's nerve wrecking to a pet owner. Hope you guys and little Cam had a Merry Christmas!
