November 5th

The weather was beautiful today and Ava had another great day.   Her great grandparents Pa and Doris came over to visit and she was perfect for them.  I'm beginning to see a trend, Ava is really good with people who have prior parenting experience.  After Pa and Doris left we took Ava for a stroller ride and walked the dogs, it was too nice of a day not to.  Ava slept for most of the trip and didn't cry at all.  She did wake up a few times when we would stop, she definitely likes the motion.

Keren left to get us some dinner and I let Ava sleep in the stroller.  About 10 minutes before Keren came home I heard what sounded like a large clap of thunder coming from Ava's diaper and she was wide awake.  We had dressed her in 10 layers of clothing for the stroller ride.  You would have thought we were walking her through the arctic tundra.  She immediately started crying so I had to undress her, change diaper and get a bottle, QUICK.  I only had one hand available and I've learned warming up a bottle, changing out the nipple and calming a baby with one hand is more difficult than it sounds.  I finally got the bottle in her mouth and she was a happy camper.  Ok, so the milk wasn't quite room temperature but she didn't seem to mind.

Our friend Kristen Hord emailed us a really informative book tonight to read called "Sleep Sense."  She has a two month old boy named Cam so she and her husband have just gone through what we are experiencing.  I've already read the first 50 pages tonight desperately searching for the magic solution to getting our child to sleep quickly.  It's a great book and come to find out we are doing a few things incorrectly. Getting Ava to sleep will require establishing a routine and not relying on "props" such as me rocking her to sleep with the faucet running.  (we've done that 3 times tonight already)  Thanks Kristen for emailing that, we have a lot to learn!
Oh, tonight was the first time Ava watched "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."  Ok, so Keren and I watched it while Ava slept in the pack n' play.  Maybe she caught bits and pieces while she dosed off.  Christmas will be a fun time with our new addition to the family.

This is the same expression I have when I see a cookie....

I turbocharged Ava's swing.  Puts her to sleep in 1/4th the time.

  1. Hope the book helps!! Like I said, it's just guidelines so don't think you have to follow every "rule" they give but it's a great reference and we use it!!! And I have to admit, Cam is a great sleeper so there must be SOMETHING to it. ;o)

Btw- that cookie is bigger than Ava's head!! haha

  2. We are definitely reading it, thanks again Kristen. We need to get her on a schedule looks like and hopefully that will improve her ability to sleep.

That was a cookie from Jimmy John's. You are right, they are huge. :)

  4. I'm sure you modified Tyler's swing in some way. It would be unlike you not to. :)
